Game & Level Designer

SQUAREWAVES

Red Mass Studio

Position: Game Designer (University project - Final Master’s degree)

Squarewaves is a First Person Puzzle game developed by RedMass Studio, a small team of Videogame Development students based in Madrid, Spain. It is a journey through the act of creation, based in the player’s point of view which will determine the resolution of the puzzles while traveling the beautiful architecture of the levels.

The game was nominated at the PlayStation Talents program in Spain, an initiative of the PlayStation Iberia company that helps new studios to publish in the PlayStation 4 platform.

As a Lead Game Designer, I was responsible for the communication between the design department and the rest of the team as well as internal organization and production of the Design Department.

Perspective mechanic.

In regard of design related tasks I was in charge of the definition of the core mechanics of the game: the ability to move architectural pieces using the perspective of the player, crystals where the player can see the pieces with different sizes and interact with them, or pulses cables in which the player guide the energy from cable to cable driving it to its final destination to trigger specifics events.

I participated in puzzle design, paper and blockout design with numerous iterations, as well as the design of the map and levels, with its distribution in distinct areas.

Pulses cables.

Some designed features were sadly out of scope and not implemented, as narrative aspects using sculptures scenes in the enviroment that show different stages of the creative process or the use of an AI companion based on flocking behaviour to allow some help and interactions with the puzzles.
